The most popular tour in Portugal is certainly the Sintra and Lisbon Coast tour.

Your guide will take you on a visit to the main highlight of Sintra, the colorful Pena Palace, considered one of the most beautiful palaces in the world. Located on the top of Sintra Hill, this 19th-century palace is a symbol of Romanticism in Portugal.

We buy tickets in advance to avoid lines. It is included.

The historical village center is pedestrian-friendly, so you will have some free time to shop and walk around.

It’s lunch time, and you will enjoy the sea view at the beach close to the westernmost cliff in Europe. Fish is king.

The tour continues to Roca Cape, the westernmost point of continental Europe, a perfect place for a photo. And then go straight to Cascais and stop for a walk through its pedestrian streets—the charming resort area has a lot of stories to tell.

On a private walk, you can learn about Évora, which is a UNESCO World Heritage site and a real-life open-air museum. Explore its small streets with cobblestones that are full of shops and handicrafts. It has many significant historical structures and locations, including the Roman Temple of Diana, the goddess of the moon and hunting.

This quiet, pretty town is also home to the well-known Chapel of Bones, which is made of real bones and still fascinates both locals and tourists. "We the bones that are here, for yours we wait" is written on the door.

The Cathedral of Évora is a beauty with both Gothic and Roman elements.

For lunch, you will have to try the famous "migas alentejanas", a traditional treat made from Alentejo bread that will make your mouth water.

You will go to a winery where you can learn about how the famous and award-winning Alentejo wine is made and bottled. The visit will end with a taste of the wine.

Day 5

Peniche, Óbidos, Batalha, Alcobaça & Tomar

Peniche and the sea are inseparable, so after breakfast we begin our journey. It is one of Portugal's largest traditional fishing ports and a significant maritime-tourism hub on the Atlantic.

Inside the castle walls of Óbidos, a medieval village from the XIIth century, you will find an abundance of handicraft shops, chapels, and quaint inns. Here, you must sample the "ginjinha" cherry liquor on a cocoa cup.

In the afternoon, visit Batalha and Alcobaca, where one of the most significant symbols of Portugal's history can be found: the Batalha Monastery, where the Portuguese defeated the Spanish army in a protracted battle from 1383 to 1386. Alcobaca owes its prominence and growth to the Cistercian Monastery or Royal Abbey of Santa Maria, also known as Mosteiro de Alcobaca, which was founded in 1153. After the Christian reconquest of Santarém, which the Moors had held from 1147 to 1178, Dom Afonso Henriques, the first King of Portugal, fulfilled a promise by giving land to Friar Bernardo of Claraval, the founder of the Order of Cistercians.

The Sete Montes Park, where it is believed that traditional initiation rites took place, and the Church of Santa Maria do Olival, which the Templars founded in the 12th century and houses the tombs of numerous Masters of the Order, are two additional examples of how Tomar, also known as the city of the Templars, exhibits their influence.

Lisbon to Porto

Today we start the journey from Lisbon to Porto, visiting the most important cities in between and learning about them.

The first stop is in Fátima, where you can visit Fátima Sanctuary, the main religious spot in Portugal and one of the most important in the world since 1917.

Then get to know Coimbra, which was the capital of Portugal during the Middle Ages, but it was the Renaissance that transformed the city into a place of knowledge when Dom João III (1521–57) decided to move the university to the city on a definitive basis, while at the same time numerous colleges were created to provide an alternative to the official form of teaching. Uncover the city that hosts one of the oldest European universities and visit the most important rooms of the Universidade de Coimbra.

After lunch, continue to Aveiro, also known as Portugal's little Venice. Home of the Ria, a vast lagoon where the freshwater of the River Vouga joins with the sea, Aveiro is intersected by canals, genuine streets of water, along which can be seen gliding the brightly colored boats known as barcos moliceiros. Originally founded in the time of the Roman Emperor Marcus Aurelius, Aveiro is now one of the most interesting cities on the Portuguese coast. Enjoy a ride on the canals on a Moliceiro, the traditional boat of Aveiro.
